International Orchid Show in Montreal, Quebec
Saturday, October 13, noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday, October 14, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Excitement is building as the date approaches for the 18th annual Orchidfête, a last
opportunity to luxuriate in floral splendour before hunkering down to survive the winter,
and maybe a chance to bring an elegant soupçon of the tropics home to cheer the frosty
days.
Whether you are an orchid lover, a photographer, or just want to spend a lovely time
strolling among the displays mounted by orchid societies and dealers from all over the
world you will find something to please you at this event. Orchids are the oldest flowers
still with us that may have co-existed with the dinosaurs and there are more than 30,000
species, more than any other kind of flower in existence. You will see blooms here of a
variety and quality that have never appeared in your neighbourhood supermarket or big
box store, and have a chance to compare your favourites as entries vie for the best of
their class and the superb are selected for recognition by the American Orchid Society,
arbiters of international quality. You will have a chance to learn about these endangered
plants, about orchid societies, and meet with other orchid lovers to learn what is special
about these exotic blooms.
Afterwards, why not visit the vendors with orchids from as far away as China, Ecuador,
California, and choose a few favoured ones to take home yourself? Or you may need
some advice, some growing materials, a fascinating book, or a lovely piece of jewellery
or art.

Sunday, 8 a.m.-9 a.m.
General admission: $10.
Aged under 12 and over 65: $8.
